There’re three types of tape used a lot in the lash industry: Paper Tape, Medical Silicone Tape, and Foam Tape. The most asked question we’ve ever got is “which tape is the best for lash extension application?”

Frankly speaking, none of them are perfect, as each type of tape has its own pros and cons. Before we break it down, let’s get started with three main factors you need to consider before deciding what kind of tape to use:

Paper Tape

Paper tape has been used in the lash industry for a very long time. You can use it to tape under eyes and upper lids. The tape is very thin and flexible. It can be easily replaced if your client’s eyes tear up and also allows you to layer it up. Most of the Paper Tape is latex-free and breathable to maintain skin integrity. However, the paper tape might cause chemical burns. The reason for this because the paper tape is made of cotton fiber, and cotton fiber has something called cellulose, which is a kind of plant cells. When cotton fiber mixes with the main ingredient in lash glue called sinew acrylate, they have a bad reaction to each other and do not blend well, which causes chemical burns.

FOAM Tape

The foam tape is latex-free, cellulose-free, hypoallergenic, and cost-effective! The foam itself holds its in place, so the foam tape is also a great option for people who like to laugh and talk, or for people whose eyes are constantly shaking during the process. It is also perfect for clients with oily skin or sensitive watery eyes. The top lid can close right down on top of it! In this way, it creates a seal to keep fumes out of the eye because we know it is fully closed. Another great thing about foam tape is that it is painless when removed.

However, Foam Tape does have its disadvantages. It’s bulky and probably will not work for clients who have high cheekbones.

Silicone Tape⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Silicone tape is a hypoallergenic as well as latex-free tape that is gentle to sensitive skin. It is economical and breathable. Due to the white color, it is easier to see dark lashes on it. Silicone tape has its cons. When it comes to under-eye taping, silicone tape is less flexible than the other types because silicone tape could move or climb up when your client talks to you. Silicone tape adheres well and might leave a minimal amount of adhesive residue, so it might be painful when you remove it from your dry skin during the lash extension application.
