For Beginners: The Do’s and Don’ts of False Lashes

July 21, 2021 Eyelashes Views: 669

False lashes are booming right now, and there is more love for them now than there ever was in the past. By using a pair of false lashes, you can increase the volume and length of your eyelashes in a few minutes and achieve glamorous-looking eyes.

If you’re new to the world of false lashes, read on to find out more. In this article, we will go through the Do’s and Don’ts of false lashes for beginners.

Do curl your lashes first

Our natural eyelashes are often naturally straight, so when you apply false lashes that flick up, there will be a disconnect between your lashes and the false lashes. The best thing to do is to use an eyelash curler and give your natural lashes a squeeze for a few seconds. This will give your lashes a good lift. In this way, not only will your lashes look better but they'll also align with your faux lashes perfectly.

Do apply mascara beforehand

Do apply mascara to your lashes before you put on your false lashes to help mix them in. Don’t put your false lashes on top of your naked lashes and then apply mascara to your own lashes, because this will most likely end up uplifting your false lashes as well as getting them goopy.

Don’t apply lash glue while your mascara is still wet

If your mascara is still wet, DON’T apply the lash glue and false lashes straight away, or both your lashes and the false lashes will become goopy.

After you apply your mascara, it is best to wait for a few minutes and work on the rest of your makeup while it dries. Once your mascara is dry, you’re free to apply your false lashes!

Do use tweezers to take the false lashes out of the packaging

When taking the false lashes out of the packaging, don’t use your fingers, as the false lashes are delicate. Using your fingers could bend the false lashes or damage them, so it’s best to use a pair of tweezers to take them out.

Do trim the false lashes

False lashes are not made as a "one size fits all". They are often too long to fit most eye shapes, so you might need to customize them to fit your eyes. To customize them, hold the false lashes against your eye, placing the inner corner just past your own inner corner. By doing this you will be able to see if the lashes are too long for your eyes or if they fit just right. If the lashes are too long, take them away from your eyes and then trim the end with scissors. Keep placing it back to your eye to check if it is the right length.

Do trim from the outer edge of the false lashes

If you need to trim your lashes to fit your eyes, do trim from the long (outer edge), or you'll lose the shape and the prettiness of your false lashes if you trim from the shorter edge (inner corner). For safety, never cut the lashes while they are on or anywhere near your eyes.

Less is more. If you're not sure how much to trim, trim off less than you think and then re-measure. You can always take off more, but you can't add more lash on once it’s been cut.

Do apply glue to the band of the false lashes

When applying the lash glue, apply the lash glue to the false lash band. The band will sit against your skin, so it will stick best this way. Don't overdo it with the lash glue as you’ll want to avoid too much lash glue getting on your eyes.

Don’t apply the lashes straight after applying the glue

Wait for about thirty seconds to a minute to let the glue dry and become tacky before applying the lashes to your eye. This will make it easier for them to stick on.

Do lay the inner corner first

It is best to lay the inner corner of the false lashes first, and then lightly lay the rest of the strip.

Do Connect your lashes

Give your lashes a little pinch to make sure that your real and false lashes are connected.

You can apply a touch of mascara to connect them even better.
