6 Tips for Getting the Perfect Eyelash Extension Look for Your Clients
Whether you're a novice or not, browsing through the following 5 tips will definitely help you better choose the right lashes for each client.

As a lash artist, the first thing to consider is knowing which extensions are right for your client's lashes and how to create the look they want for your client. Educating your clients on the basics of eyelash extensions and helping them choose the right length and weight will give your clients the best results and trust in you.

Whether you're a novice or not, browsing through the following 5 tips will definitely help you better choose the right lashes for each client.

Tip #1 - Consider Size First

Lash artists should have a variety of diameters, curls, and lengths of lashes. This way you can customize your client's lashes to the size they want. Applying lashes that are too long or too heavy can cause long-term damage and prevent your client's lash follicles from producing healthy lashes.

For example, if you have a client with 6 mm natural lashes and a client with 12 mm natural lashes, then you should not use the same length lashes for both of them. If one client has sparse lashes and the other has thick lashes, you should not choose the same thickness of lashes. This is bound to damage the natural lashes of some of your clients.

So, when some clients make unreasonable requests to you, you should explain these reasons clearly to them.

Tip #2 - Choose the Right Thickness

0.10 will give your clients’ lash set a lovely natural effect, subtly enhancing your clients’ eyes and giving passersby a chance to take a second look.

0.15 is the first choice for creating a mascara effect. If your clients don’t want to apply mascara every morning, opt for this.

0.20 will give your clients quite a dramatic effect but are quite heavy for those natural lashes. However, if your clients want something dramatic but light in weight, you can choose flat lashes - they are thick but half the weight of a regular classic lash or the same thickness! It can give your clients all the drama but without any damage - what could be better than that?

Tip #3 - Choose the Right Length

Your clients who come in for lash extensions are aiming to extend their natural lashes. So, you should determine the style they are looking for. Do they want subtlety or fullness? Longer or shorter? Fuller or natural? Determining the styles your clients are looking for before you do eyelash extensions for them is very important, otherwise, you wouldn’t create the perfect eyelash look for them.

Before you do lash extensions, you need to know that longer lashes mean thinner lashes. In short, if you're adding length, consider reducing the diameter. Thinner lashes will compensate for the added length by reducing the weight. Remember, when using lashes that are 3mm longer than your clients’ natural lashes, natural lashes may twist and break as they grow out. Make sure that clients who prefer length come in for fillers at least every two weeks and replace the grown lashes with new extensions at the root of the natural lashes.

Tip #4 - Choose the Right Curl

Now it's time to choose the curl for your clients. Here's a basic breakdown of different curl.

J curl - the least curly and most similar to most natural lashes, but not commonly used.

B curl – the basic curl that gives a super natural look and is most often used in the inner corner of the eye to prevent bumping your nose.

C curl - the most commonly used curl, giving a noticeable but not dramatic curl.

D curl - the most pronounced and exaggerated curl that gives the most lift.

L curl - Similar in shape to an L, for eyelash customers with eyelids, but not limited to.

When talking to your client about curl, analyze the curl of his/her lashes with your client. This is because an improper curl can affect the overall appearance. If your client's lashes are downward, try mixing a B curl with a C curl to give the lashes a lift without such a big difference between natural lashes and extensions. If your client's lashes are curled upward and they already have enough lift, a C curl can look like a D curl. Avoid starting out with a D curl because it will look too curly on them.

Tip #5 Know Your Client's Preference

Determine if your client prefers long or voluminous lashes. If exceptionally long lashes are desired, then the sparser they are likely to look. For fuller lashes, we need to pick lashes that are closer to the length of your client's natural lashes. If your client prefers fullness, tell her that we have to use shorter lashes due to the fact that we are limited by the number of their natural lashes.

Tip #6 Provide Your Clients with Detailed Aftercare

Many clients who get lash extensions don't know how to care for their lashes, and it can be difficult to expect clients to maintain their lashes without any tips or tricks. So, give them all the details they need to ensure their lashes stay looking very good throughout the month. In particular, tell them to try not to touch the water for 48 hours after having their lashes extensions and to come in on time to do fill in. Of course, the correct way to wash your face and the use of cosmetics is also very important. This will also increase your trust in their minds.

Proper eyelash extensions help accentuate people’s best features and hide flaws. Many times, even if the lash artist is very skilled, it can lead to a very poor final result. That's why it's essential that both you and your client know something about eyelash extensions.
