Lash Artist Guide: The Ultimate Eyelash Extensions Techniques
This post is a guide for lash artists. It contains a summary of eyelash techniques you may want to try out.

When it comes to eyelashes, the beauty industry has seen it all. From mascara, to lash growth serums, to curlers. But not is as intriguing as the eyelash extension. When the first wave of it heat the market, it was a reasonable substitute for the mascara. But now, there are issues regarding the techniques.

For starting lash artist, applying eyelash extension may not be as easy as you think it is, unlike wearing a falsie. It takes patience, precision, and artistry to do a good job. That is why I’m coming up with this post, courtesy of Appearanz eyelashes. This post is a guide for lash artists. It contains a summary of eyelash techniques you may want to try out. Read on to find out more!

Eyelash Extensions And Their Types

First thing first, eyelash extensions are semi-permanent fibers worn on natural lashes to make them look fuller, longer, and darker. They are applied individually on each strand of natural lashes using glue – also semi-permanent.

There are three types of eyelash extensions based on materials, as a lash artist, you should know that already. But if you don't, they are synthetic, silk, and faux-mink. Others may add mink to the classification, but not me. I’m totally against animal cruelty.

Silk extensions look natural, synthetic lashes are thicker, and faux-mink are synthetic extensions resembling mink hairs. That’s all the difference there is to know.

These extensions, whether silk, faux-mink, or synthetic, come in different lengths, thicknesses, curls, and colors. For more on the types of eyelash extensions, we have a comprehensive article for that.

Before starting the whole process, there are things you should do as a lash artist.

Assessment

Before starting the extension application, you need to evaluate the client. Let them know the benefits of the process as well as the risks attached to it. Also, ask them about their lash health. Some conditions may not go well with lash extensions.

Decide on the length and curls

Not everybody has the kind of lash for every kind of lash extension. Beauty experts know this that is why they make extensions of different lengths and thicknesses. The nature of the natural determines the kind of extension to go for, also, the shape of the eye.

The thickness comes in .05, .07, .10, .15, and .18. The length is from 6mm up to 15mm.

For the curls, there is the;

  •        J curl with the least amount of curl. It looks almost straight. It is the closest you get to natural.
  •        C curl has more curl than J curl and it makes the eye more open
  •        D curl has more curl than C and J, and it works best for those with naturally curled lashes.

Those with down-turned eyes should use extensions with prominent curls to open their eyes like Appearanz J curls, while those with curly natural lash should use straight extensions, like Appearanz D curls. In some cases, you may even decide to use 3-4 different kinds of extensions. Some lash trays come in different lengths, like the Appearanz mixed length lash trays.

Steps Involved In Applying Eyelash Extensions

Clean The Eye Area

First, get the client to lie down and ensure they are as comfortable as they can be before proceeding. Cleanse the eye area, the lashes, and the lid with a makeup remover to remove dirt, oil, leftover makeup, and germs. Hygiene should be considered to avoid eye infections. If possible, tell the client to come makeup-free when they make their bookings.

Apply Tape And Eye Gels

Since the client's eyes will be closed for the duration of the procedure, under-eye gel should be applied to the lower lashes to prevent them from sticking to the upper lashes. This under-eye gel also provides a form of contrast (white background) to make the whole process easier. Secure both ends of the tape with medical-grade tape. This kind of tape is skin-friendly and doesn’t hurt when pulling off.

Apply the lashes

For this step, you need a pair of tweezers, lash glue, and steady hands. Hold up each lash strand with the tweezers and dip the end in the glue. Then apply it on the individual lash.

There are three ways to apply eyelash extensions; classic, volume, or hybrid.

For classic lashes, each extension strand is attached to each natural lash individually. It can only be as full as your natural lashes are. Volume lashes or Russian volume is quite different from the classic lash. They come in 2D up to 6D. This means that you can have more than one extension on each individual strand. For instance, 2D means two extensions on one individual lash. Hybrid lashes are a mixture of classic lashes and volume lashes. It can be in the ratio of 50:50 or 70:30 (70 % volume and 30% classic).

While applying the lashes, no two lashes should be stuck together. Separate them with the tweezers. You can also coat the natural lashes with adhesive before setting the extensions on them.

Drying

Although the glue dries out almost immediately after applying the extension, you may still need to point a handheld fan at it to hasten the drying time. Alternatively, you can allow it to air dry but the client will have to sit still for about 10 minutes after completing the procedure.

Remove The Tape

Once the lashes are completely dry, you can go ahead to remove the gel and tape. As earlier said, the tape is medical grade and won’t hurt to remove. However, you should consult the client to know if the skin in that area is sensitive and needs extra caution. After removing the tape, be sure to brush through the lashes with a spoolie before your client opens their eye.

There are reasons for choosing eyelash extensions, they are gorgeous, customizable, waterproof, and safer. I recommend Appearanz lash extensions because they are soft, lightweight, and bring out a quality experience. Visit the online store to make a purchase today!
