Eyelashes 101: The Differences Between Silk and Mink

Mink and silk eyelashes are some of the most widely known false lashes in the lash industry. Mink and silk lashes differ from one another in appearance, texture, and weight. Knowing the differences between these lashes can help you to decide what to go for when you want to purchase a pair.
Mink
Mink eyelashes are real hairs that are from mink animals. Generally speaking, mink lashes are all obtained from the tail of the mink. Mink lashes are not used often today. It is expensive to get a hundred percent mink fur, and because mink is expensive to source, the price of mink eyelashes is costly.
Mink is sourced from animals, and mink lashes have been linked to animal cruelty and fur farms. Due to this, people don't want mink eyelashes. The majority of companies and salons just don't offer mink anymore, therefore mink lashes are not common.
The other thing about real mink lashes is that because it is real hair, it doesn't hold its curl as much. Mink hair is really fine and super thin and can lose its curl quickly.
Silk
Silk eyelashes are made of PBT. Silk eyelashes are all man-made, and they are cruelty-free. Silk lashes have a short taper which means that the body of the lash is thicker for longer lashes. Silk lashes are softer, and they have a little more flexibility than mink. If you're looking for something that holds its curl well and keeps its firmness, silk lashes are probably what you're looking for.
