How to Trim False Lashes to Fit Your Eyes and Make Them Look Natural

July 28, 2021 Eyelashes Views: 685

Most false lashes are made a little bit wider than our eyes, so it is best to trim them a little before applying new falsies for the first time. Luckily, it is super easy and simple to trim your false eyelashes to match your eye size and achieve perfectly sized lashes!

Things you’ll need:

  •        Scissors
  •        Tweezers

If you struggle with getting your lashes really close to your lash line, we recommend wearing eyeliner. Putting mascara on before or after is a personal preference. Many people choose to put mascara on first because it keeps your lashes nice and long and your falsies won't get gloopy with mascara. They'll stay super fluffy and clean because once you get mascara on your false lashes you must remember to clean them after. Occasionally if your falsies get wet or you use oil makeup remover on them, they won’t hold their shape.

Oftentimes, the only downside to putting mascara on first is it does seem to make it a little bit harder to put the false lashes on. When your lashes are soft and naked, it can be easier to see where your lash line should be, and you can get them on without any lashes getting in the way. If you want to get the most wear out of your falsies, we suggest putting mascara on first.

A good way to make sure you've got a little “shelf” for your lashes to sit on top of is to give your lashes a curl before you apply your mascara. Keep in mind that putting too much mascara on will cause your lashes to get clumpy and make it harder for your false lashes to blend with your natural lashes.

So, how do you know how much to cut off your false lash to fit your eye?

This is another thing that does come down to personal preference. If you like your falsies to go all the way across your eye, you should only trim off a little bit. If you do this and you find that your lashes lift or it's uncomfortable, then you need to trim off a little more.

Step 1

Carefully pick up one falsie from the tray using tweezers (don’t apply glue yet!) and place it against your eye to see how long the lash is without any trimming.

Step 2

Make sure that you position the falsies at the inner corner of your lashes (shortest hairs), where your existing lashes start.

Step 3

If you want the inner corner to blend better, always keep the shortest lashes intact on your falsies and never cut them off. Instead cut the outside edge (the end with the longest lashes) of the falsies.

If you've got false lashes that are the same length over the whole entire band, then it doesn't matter which end you cut off.

Step 4

Cut off the extra length of your false lashes with scissors and then place your falsies against your eye again to see if it fits well.

Step 5

If you're finding that the inner corner of your lash is always lifting, then roll your lashes into a C shape so the falsies get more of a curve. The reason this lifting happens is that the lash band pulls up and tries to go back to its original shape.

You can also pinch the inner corner and the outer corner of the lash to soften the inner and outer corners to prevent them from lifting up.

If you trim your lashes and still find them to be uncomfortable, you can also cut them into two or three pieces and then apply them individually. In this way, the band won’t be hard and lift as easily so that it will be more comfortable. This method is more time-consuming though.

Trimming your false lashes is important as it makes your falsies more comfortable, less likely to lift, and more natural on your eyes!
