How to style a synthetic wig

Use wig styling tools made specifically for wigs. For example, using a wig cap under a wig often results in a more comfortable fit. A hat will help protect your natural hair and also help prevent breakage and thinning, especially on the crown of your head. Using a chin strap will help keep the wig securely on your head, freeing up your hands for styling.

If you can’t lift your arms for long periods of time, you may choose to wear the wig on your styling head instead of your own. This will also make styling the back of the wig easier, if you’re wearing it, you may not be able to easily access other parts.

How to wash synthetic wigs

When it’s time to wash your hair, you’ll need cold water, synthetic shampoo, synthetic conditioner, a wide-tooth comb, and a towel. Undo your wig the right way before any washing process.

Then, take your synthetic shampoo and add some shampoo to a small bucket of cold or lukewarm water until the water lathers slightly. Make sure there is enough water in the tub to submerge the wig in it. Gently put in the unwrapped wig, making sure it’s completely flat in cold water and shampoo.

Make sure the wig is completely submerged in the water. Let it sit in the water for 10 to 15 minutes, moving it gently from side to side. When the time is up, remove the wig and rinse with running water. Mix the synthetic conditioner and the cold-water solution together and place the wig in it again, making sure it’s fully immersed in the solution. Fabric conditioners can be substituted for synthetic conditioners. Let it soak for 5 to 10 minutes, remove the wig place it between folded towels, and pat dry. Place the wig on the wig stand and let it air dry.

To sum it all up, here’s a list of what you cannot do to your synthetic wigs:

  • Avoid exposure to heat from boiling water, preheated ovens, curling irons, hairdryers, clothes dryers, open flames, and grills.
  • Avoid rubbing with friction-generating items, which may damage the wig, such as upholstered furniture, turtlenecks, and bed pillows.
  • Avoid rubbing, twisting, or wringing out the wig.
  • When the wig is wet with water, steam, rain, snow, overspray, or sweat, please avoid brushing or touching the wig.
  • Avoid putting the wig on the styling head when wet, as this will stretch and damage the wig cap.
  • Avoid using heated tools on wigs that are not specifically designed to heat friendly.

It’s easy to follow these wig care tips! This will help prolong the life of the wig and make you look great. Help ensure that you can enjoy them for a long time.
