How Many Times Can You Reuse False Eyelashes?

July 29, 2021 Eyelashes Views: 1037

Eyelashes occupy an important position in our make-up bags. False eyelashes have become an essential beauty enhancer, but the question is: how many times can you reuse your false lashes and how safe is it to do so? In this article, we will sum up the recommended lifespan of the different types of eyelashes, as well as go through how you can care for your false eyelashes so that they last longer.

Firstly, not all falsies are created equally. Some can be used more often than others. And in fact, the amount of wears you can get out of a pair depends on how the lashes are made. For example, natural animal hair lashes tend to last longer than synthetic hair lashes. While animal hair lashes can provide up to 20 to 30 wears, synthetic lashes can only provide around 3 to 8 wears. The bands on strip lashes can also make a difference, as thick lashes last longer than thin lashes. So, even though they may be a little harder for beginners, those thick strips can give you more wears.

Most importantly, the way you care for your false lashes also affects how long they last. To ensure that you're getting the most wear from each pair of false lashes, here are five tips we have found to help keep them staying as new as possible.

1. Pull them off gently

When removing your false eyelashes, carefully lift up the eyelash band, starting from the outer corner of your eye. Avoid pulling the individual eyelashes, as this can pull out your own eyelashes as well as destroy the shape of your false eyelashes.

2. Avoid using mascara or applying other makeup to your false lashes

Avoid applying mascara or any other make-up product directly on to your false lashes, as this can make the lashes more difficult to clean.

Or, if necessary, apply mascara to your own eyelashes before you put on your false eyelashes. But in order to make the false eyelashes last longer, don’t apply mascara on the false eyelashes. This will only cause accumulation.

3. Use Tweezers

Once you have taken off your falsies for the day, use tweezers to remove excess glue buildup along the band to keep it clean.

4. Clean your false eyelashes

You can’t soak your natural animal eyelashes, but you can soak your synthetic eyelashes in a bowl of olive oil or makeup remover for a deep clean. Leave them for an hour to help dissolve excess glue and make-up, which will keep them fresh and ready for your next use.

5. Clean and Store them Properly

  • Soak a cotton pad in coconut oil or eye makeup remover. Run along the entire length of the lash band to remove any eyeliner or mascara residue. Wipe each side of the lashes and along the adhesive strip.
  • Use tweezers to remove excess glue from your lash strip. Hold the lashes by the hairs to pick out glue residue.
  • Dip another cotton pad into the alcohol solution and wipe the false eyelash strips, this will ensure that every last bit of glue is gone, and it will also disinfect the lash band for next time. Since our eyes are sensitive, this is actually a crucial step. Do not soak synthetic lashes in water as it can damage them.
  • Leave the lashes to air dry for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • You should avoid keeping your eyelashes in places such as the bathroom which can often get hot and wet. Heat and light can also damage the lash fibers, so try to store them in a cool, dark place, like your dresser drawer.

It’s terrible when you have to throw away your favorite pair of falsies. However, you can prolong your time together by following our top tips and guidelines. Caring for your false eyelashes can ensure that they last for more wears. Make sure you clean them after every use and that you store them properly. Remember though, that the quality of your false lashes has a big impact on their longevity.
