“False eyelashes” are definitely not unheard of when it comes to makeup. With the popularity of false eyelashes rising, many different types of false lashes have flooded into the market, ranging from strip lashes, individual lashes, to cluster lashes and even magnetic lashes.

Here, we will break down everything you need to know about the different types of false eyelashes and help you to find the perfect false lashes for you.

Strip Lashes

strip lashes

Strip lashes are the most traditional type of lashes and they are the most common. When make-up artists, influencers, and bloggers talk about false lashes on social media, they are most likely referring to strip lashes.

Strip lashes contain hair that is attached to a horizontal band. Strip lashes are very versatile, and they can be trimmed to achieve a specific length or to fit your eyes. Strip lashes can be instantly applied to add volume and length to your eyelashes. Strip lashes are commonly made from synthetic fiber, silk, or mink.

How to apply strip lashes:

Firstly, measure the strip lashes against your eyes. If the strip doesn’t quite fit your eye, you can always trim the outer corner of the strip lashes to fit your eye shape. Do not trim off too much too soon for your very first time, as most people need a few practice trials before finding the right length. Always trim the lashes far away from your eyes.

To apply the lashes, firstly apply a little lash glue to the strip band and wait for 30 to 60 seconds for the glue to become tacky. Then gently place the false eyelashes onto your eyelid, aligning with your natural lash. Or, you could apply a glue liner to your eyelid like you’re putting on regular eye liner, and then apply strip lashes on the line to allow the band to set.

Individual Lashes

Individual lashes are the best option for a customizable look. Individual lashes are usually available in different lengths, so they can be added in certain areas or fill in any gaps that you may have in your natural lashes. Individual lashes are good for achieving very natural-looking lash.

How to apply individual lashes:

Using a pair of tweezers, take an individual lash, dip the tip in lash glue and wait for 10 to 20 seconds. Then carefully apply each individual lash evenly in between your natural lashes. You could target sparse areas in your lashes, or you could focus on adding the individual lashes to the outer ends of your natural lashes for a wide-eyed effect.

Cluster Lashes

Cluster lashes are also known as "individual flares". If you’re looking for similar results to strip lashes, but you want more flexibility, then clusters are definitely for you. Cluster lashes can be applied to create a variety of looks. For example, you can add a few cluster lashes to the corners of your eyes to create a cat-eye effect.

A great thing about clusters is that the shorter the band on the cluster, the easier to put on the lash line (unlike strip lashes which can lift on the corners if they don’t fit one’s eye shape).

How to apply cluster lashes:

Each cluster lash should be placed onto the upper lash line and layered as desired by dispensing a thin amount of lash adhesive. You can always apply them in a row for a full strip-like effect, or you could pop them just onto the outer corners of your eyes to create a wider, cat-eye effect.

Magnetic Lashes

If you’re allergic to lash glue or you want an alternative to lash glue, magnetic lashes are a great option. Magnetic lashes are innovative, as they can be applied along the lash line without applying glue. No more waiting for the glue to completely set, magnetic lashes can just pop right on after using the magnetic eyeliner. Magnetic lashes are reusable and can be used more than 30 times with the proper care.

How to apply magnetic lashes:

Firstly, apply the magnetic eyeliner to your lash line just like you would put on regular eyeliner, and then put the magnetic lashes on. You can remove the magnetic lashes just like strip lashes when you’re done wearing them.
