4 Common Mistakes an Eyelash Artist can Make - Part One

October 08, 2021 Eyelashes Views: 508

1. DO NOT apply lash extensions to the skin

Applying extensions too close to or on the skin is a common mistake made by a lash artist. If lash extensions are placed on the skin, it may cause itching, redness, and puffiness for your clients who have sensitive skin or have an allergic reaction to lash extension glue.

On top of that, when eyelash extensions are stuck to the skin, the lash glue can clog the hair follicles on the lash line, causing serious damage to the growth of the lashes, leading to infection and causing eyelash loss and baldness.

Applying lash extensions on the skin is dangerous, so always keep this in mind - Lash extensions must be placed along the lash line and 0.5mm-0.1mm away from the skin.

2. DO isolate properly

Lashes will stick and clump together and eventually cause damage to natural lash if lash extensions aren’t isolated properly. This is because natural lashes are not in the same growth stage - one natural lash will fall out while another is growing out. When improper application bundles up these lashes in different growth stages, it will lead to pain and itchiness in the lash line and probably cause severe damage to the lash follicle and lash loss, and bald spots.

3. DO NOT use the wrong glue

We all know that finding the right and perfect lash extension glue out of millions of glue brands with complex descriptions never can be easy. However, the wrong type of lash extension glue can cause severe negative situations. A major factor in measuring the quality of eyelash glue is the speed of drying of eyelash extensions - a proper eyelash extension glue needs to dry perfectly with the speed of the technique you are operating with.

If a lash glue dries too slow

a. Lashes will stick together

b. Bad and incorrect placement

c. Longer exposure to glue fumes - increase the chance of getting glue allergy

If a lash glue dries too fast

a. Fast-drying of your glue droplet

b. Poor placement

c. Early lash loss

The popular eyelash glue that everyone is talking about on social media is sometimes not the right fit. Understanding your needs and your own situation is key.

4. DO NOT use excess lash glue

Using excess lash glue will NEVER result in a better bond, but rather making a huge mistake. With too much glue on the lashes, it takes longer to dry and the lashes stick together and look very clumpy. The lashes cannot bear too much weight, otherwise, it will result in severe damage to the natural lashes. Also, you will run the risk of eye irritation from the fumes of the excess glue, causing allergies.

We have some tips for you:

A tiny amount of eyelash glue is ENOUGH to bond the extension to the natural eyelash.

For classic lash extensions - dip the lash 2mm into the glue drop at a 90-degree angle.

For volume and premade volume fans - dip the lash 1mm into the glue drop.
